Understanding the challenges OF free clinics
Interviewing a local Clinic Director led to discovering the key to a sustainable clinic is through developing a strong network of community support and a solid foundation for funding.
The Scope of Establishing a Clinic From this exercise I discovered additional audiences like volunteers, community members, and donors that need to be considered while crafting the brand and user experience of this clinic. Without support in these areas, the clinic would not be able to thrive.
Establishing a brand
To gain community and financial support it was clear that I needed to craft an identity and message that people want to stand behind.
The phrase “turning over a new leaf” reflects how the clinic wishes to impact diabetic patients, allowing them to gain a new attitude and perspective towards healthcare.
In my sketches, I wanted to convey the idea of turning over a new leaf in an abstract way. The geometric leaves, shaped like “NL,” stand for New Leaf, and all of the pieces come together, like the community of people that create the clinic.
THE VISUAL SYSTEM
I selected a sans serif typeface to communicate that New Leaf Diabetic Center is friendly and open. Then, I chose to pair a contrasting slab serif to represent New Leaf’s dependability, structure, and support.
Helping Patients
New patients can quickly assess whether or not they qualify for care and start the process of getting involved with the clinic.
62% of uninsured individuals were interested in using medical devices to check conditions and send information to their doctors electronically. With these screens, they can easily communicate with their physicians and manage their health information.
ATTRACTING VOLUNTEERS
The website provides a quick, easy way for volunteers to learn about the clinic and apply.
On the first screen, users can swipe through volunteer testimonials to get a feel for the atmosphere of the clinic. From there, they can explore more in-depth information about each position.
Overcoming Financial Challenges
Providing information on how donations can make a direct impact on New Leaf’s patients hopes to show donors how a little can go a long way.
To help the clinic apply for grants or reach out to organizations that supply insulin, I created a stationery system.
To reduce the number of outsourced print jobs, I designed a stamp for office workers to quickly brand touchpoints like envelopes, thank you cards, or special promotional material for upcoming events.
To be as cost-effective as possible, I created several multipurpose documents and tools.
